Job Description

• This role is for that of a highly autonomous and experienced professional with advanced linguistic skills in both target language and English. Under minimal direction, plan translation workload to complete projects with very tight deadlines.
  
• Read through original material and rewrite it in the target language, ensure that translations retain the content, meaning, and feeling of the original material.
• Use specialist dictionaries, thesauruses and reference books to find the closest equivalents for terminology and words used.
• Use appropriate software for presentation and delivery.
• Research legal, technical and scientific phraseology to find the correct translation.
• Identify and resolve conflicts related to the meanings of words, concepts, practices, or behaviors.
• Communicate with both client and Project Manager at Interpret This Inc. to discuss any unclear points.
• Proofread and edit final translated versions.
• Check translations of technical terms and terminology to ensure that they are accurate and remain consistent throughout translation revisions.
• Provide clients and Project Manager with a grammatically correct, well-expressed final version of the translated text, usually as a word-processed document.
  
• Use the internet and email as research tools throughout the translation process.
• Prioritize work to meet deadlines.
• Discuss translation requirements, and determine any fees to be charged for services provided.
• Consult with experts in specialist areas.
• Retain and develop specialist knowledge on areas of translation
• Follow ethical codes that protect the confidentiality of information.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or higher preferred.
• Active/corresponding member of the American Translators Association (ATA) or equivalent.
• Translation degree or a language degree with a substantial translation component, or a translation certificate issued by a recognized professional body.
• Native fluency in a target language and a source language (e.g., Vietnamese/English).
• Professional experience in their field of expertise (e.g., law, business, medical, ect.).
  
• First-hand experience with the same culture as the target audience.
